Genomic fragment that encompasses Dimm\osk; includes 5kb upstream of the start codon and extends to the end of the Dimm\osk coding sequence. A 1.6kb HindIII-Asp718 fragment that encodes the osk 3'UTR and downstream sequence is present downstream of the Dimm\osk coding sequence. Both of the methionine residues near the predicted translation start site of the short Dimm\osk isoform have been mutated (amino acid replacements M103L and M106L).
Expression of Dimm\oskM103,106L.imm3'mel in wild-type D. melanogaster embryos does not cause a partial transformation of pole cell nuclear bodies towards the morphology observed in D. immigrans embryos. This is in contrast to transgenes that express the short isoform of Dimm\osk, which can mediate this transformation.
