FlyBase curator comment: this entry is used to capture phenotypic information when the particular allele (or allele combination) used by the author could not be determined but the context of the experiment suggests that the phenotype being described is some kind of loss of function.
Wild-type clones grow more rapidly in a M(3)96Cunspecified/+ background than in a +/+ background.
When +/+ clones are induced in a M(3)96Cunspecified/+ background and cell death is analysed, apoptotic cells are largely restricted to boundaries between wild-type and M(3)96Cunspecified/+ cell populations and the apoptotic cells are almost always M(3)96Cunspecified/+. Apoptotic material is sometimes present within neighbouring, wild-type epithelial cells, indicating that some of the apoptotic cells are cleared by engulfment into neighbouring cells.
When homozygous WASpEY06238 clones (which are M(3)96C+) are induced in a M(3)96Cunspecified/+ background, cell competition appears to be reduced, as the M(3)96Cunspecified/+ cells contribute to more of the territory and show reduced cell death compared to experiments where they are competing against +/+ cells.
When homozygous PSREY07193 clones (which are M(3)96C+) are induced in a M(3)96Cunspecified/+ background, cell competition appears to be reduced, as the M(3)96Cunspecified/+ cells contribute to more of the territory and show reduced cell death compared to experiments where they are competing against +/+ cells.
When homozygous mbcEY01437 clones (which are M(3)96C+) are induced in a M(3)96Cunspecified/+ background, cell competition appears to be reduced, as the M(3)96Cunspecified/+ cells contribute to more of the territory and show reduced cell death compared to experiments where they are competing against +/+ cells.
When homozygous PSRnull clones (which are M(3)96C+) are induced in a M(3)96Cunspecified/+ background, cell competition appears to be reduced, as the M(3)96Cunspecified/+ cells contribute to more of the territory compared to experiments where they are competing against +/+ cells.
Expression of BacA\p35Scer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E increases the contribution of M(3)96Cunspecified/+ cells and decreases the contribution of +/+ cells in the posterior compartment of wing discs containing +/+ clones in a M(3)96Cunspecified/+ background.
The more rapid growth of wild-type clones in a M(3)96Cunspecified/+ background (compared to a +/+ background) is eliminated if they are also expressing BacA\p35Scer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL4en-e16E.
