Females expressing Fad2dsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL41407 show a 27% increase in linear saturated hydrocarbons compared to controls. The amount of dienes and pheromones is decreased by 98%, while that of monoenes is doubled.
Wild-type males show altered courtship behaviour towards females expressing Fad2dsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL41407 compared towards wild-type females; there are 12% fewer copulation attempts and 15% less copulation. Courtship, the first copulation attempt and copulation latencies are increased by 65%, 115% and 55% respectively.
Male and female flies expressing Fad2dsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4OK72, Scer\GAL4shn-NP5250 or Scer\GAL4Lsp2.PH show no difference in the total amount of hydrocarbons compared to controls.
Females expressing Fad2dsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4OK72 show a large decrease in 7,11-HD (-83%) and 7,11-ND (-85%) and an increase in 7-monoenes compared to controls.
Females expressing Fad2dsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4shn-NP5250 show a significant decrease in diene percentages in favour of monoenes compared to controls.
Expression of Fad2dsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Lsp2.PH has no significant effect on the hydrocarbon profile of female flies.
Expression of Fad2dsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4OK72, Scer\GAL4shn-NP5250 or Scer\GAL4Lsp2.PH has no significant effect on the hydrocarbon profile of male flies.
Wild-type males mated to females expressing Fad2dsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4OK72 show a decrease in the number of copulation attempts and the courtship index and an increase in copulation latency compared to when wild-type males are mated to control females.
