Imprecise excision of the progenitor insertion. An insertion that is larger than 1.5kb is present just upstream of exon 13.
The size of the eyes and cross-sectional area of rhabdomeres is significantly smaller than normal in mosaic flies in which the eyes are homozygous (made using the "EGUF/hid" method). The mutant ommatidia are less ordered in their arrangement than normal and many contain less than the normal complement of seven rhabdomeres.
Intracellular recordings of photoreceptor potentials elicited by a bright white stimulus of 30 seconds duration show that inaExl15 mutant photoreceptors have a small but distinct steady-state component of 4mV amplitude, but they lack the rapidly rising, initial phasic component present in control photoreceptors.
The average resting potential of homozygous photoreceptors in mosaic flies is normal.
