Flies expressing desat1NIG.5887R under the control of Scer\GAL41407 show normal locomotor activity.
Flies expressing desat1NIG.5887R under the control of Scer\GAL41407 show a dramatic change in their hydrocarbon profile compared to controls, with an almost complete disappearance of unsaturated hydrocarbons (decrease of 96% in males and of 78% in females). The level of saturated linear hydrocarbons is multiplied 4 times in both sexes compared to control flies. In females, total dienes and pheromones are decreased by 90% amd monoenes by 40%.
The percentage of wild-type males performing courtship towards control females or females expressing desat1NIG.5887R under the control of Scer\GAL41407 is similar, but the courtship latency is 4 times higher when the female is expressing desat1NIG.5887R under the control of Scer\GAL41407. Males attempting and succeeding in copulation are fewer (down 45% and 70% respectively) when the female is expressing desat1NIG.5887R under the control of Scer\GAL41407 compared to control females, and the times required for these behaviours (up 112% and 28% respectively) is increased.
