Very few autolysosomes are seen in fat body cells of wandering larvae expressing FK506-bp1Scer\UAS.cJa under the control of Scer\GAL4Cg.PA, and the autolysosomes seen in the mutant larvae are reduced in size. The nucleoli are greatly enlarged in the mutant cells.
Expression of FK506-bp1Scer\UAS.cJa under the control of Scer\GAL4Act5C.PP results in inhibition of cell growth in clones in the fat body, with the cells in the overexpressing clones being on average only 32 +/- 21% the size of wild-type neighbouring cells. The clonal cells also have a lower DNA content than their wild-type neighbours.
Larvae expressing FK506-bp1Scer\UAS.cJa under the control of Scer\GAL4Cg.PA show strong inhibition of the starvation-induced autophagy that is seen in wild-type animals.
Co-expression of PtenScer\UAS.cGb partially restores starvation-induced autophagy in larvae expressing FK506-bp1Scer\UAS.cJa under the control of Scer\GAL4Cg.PA.
