At 24.5[o]C, wings of animals expressing HIV-1\Vpu2.6.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1 are wild type. At 29[o]C, loss of the proximal crossvein and tissue reduction between veins L2-L3 are seen. At 29[o]C, increased cell death is seen in the territory of expression in the wing disc. At the compartment boundary, some apoptotic cells expressing HIV-1\Vpu2.6.Scer\UAS are misplaced posteriorly to the Scer\GAL4dpp.blk1-expression domain and are extruded basally from the wing disc epithelium.

Flies expressing HIV-1\Vpu2.6.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4yolk show normal resistance to infection by the Gram negative bacterium Erwinia carotovora, to natural infection by the entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana and to direct injection of either Aspergillus fumigatus or Neurospora crassa spores.
