Locomotor activity is 59% higher than controls in flies expressing Atf-2dsRNA.Scer\UAS.cOa with Scer\GAL4P2.4.Pdf, and these flies sleep less than controls under light/dark (408min a day compared to 563 for controls) or dark/dark conditions. These animals were found to have a lower arousal threshold than controls.

Expression of Atf-2dsRNA.Scer\UAS.cOa under the control of Scer\GAL4Act at 25[o]C does not cause lethality during the embryonic and larval stages.

Flies expressing Atf-2dsRNA.Scer\UAS.cOa under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 or Scer\GAL4c564 have impaired survival under starvation conditions; they show a more rapid death than controls when deprived of all sources of energy after being aged 7 days.

Flies expressing Atf-2dsRNA.Scer\UAS.cOa under the control of Scer\GAL4Mhc.PW show normal levels of survival under starvation conditions.

The body weight of flies expressing Atf-2dsRNA.Scer\UAS.cOa under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 is slightly (4%), but significantly, lower than that of controls.

The morphology of the fat body cells is normal in flies Atf-2dsRNA.Scer\UAS.cOa under the control of Scer\GAL4c564 and the fat body cells are normal in size.

Flies expressing Atf-2dsRNA.Scer\UAS.cOa under the control of Scer\GAL4c564 show reduced Nile-Red staining in the fat body compared to controls. Triglyceride levels of the whole body are 23% lower in 7 day old mutant flies than in control adults and are 28% lower in third instar mutant larvae than in control larvae. Hemolymph trehalose levels are similar in mutant and control flies.

Fat bodies from third instar larvae expressing Atf-2dsRNA.Scer\UAS.cOa under the control of Scer\GAL4c564 show a reduced rate of glyceroneogenesis (assayed by incorporation of pyruvate into lipids) compared to controls.

Under starvation conditions, triglyceride levels drop at a similar rate in flies expressing Atf-2dsRNA.Scer\UAS.cOa under the control of Scer\GAL4c564 and in controls.

A high-calorie diet enhances the reduced body weight and reduced triglyceride levels phenotypes which are seen in animals expressing Atf-2dsRNA.Scer\UAS.cOa under the control of Scer\GAL4c564.
