Or83bZ0061 mutants have a single point mutation that produces a splicing defect. The mutants are defective in the splicing acceptor sequence, CAG, of intron 4, that is mutated from CAGAG to CAAAG. This mutation simultaneously creates a new splicing acceptor, AG, two base pairs downstream that results in a 2bp deletion in the mature message. Use of this novel acceptor results in a frame-shift mutation that encodes a polypeptide longer than wild-type.

Splice acceptor mutation.
Or83bZ0061 mutants are defective for cVA (11-cis-vaccenyl acetate) sensitivity but also have striking defects in most olfactory responses.
Or83bZ0061 mutants exhibit normal CO[[2]] responses but lack responses to general odorants.
