Imprecise excision of the progenitor insertion, resulting in a deletion of the downstream part of wcd. The deletion results in a stop codon being present after wcd amino acid residue 26.

      The rate of loss of homozygous wcd3 germline stem cell clones (GSCs) in the ovary as females age is much more pronounced than the rate of loss of wild-type GSCs as females age.

      Homozygous ventral nerve cord neuroblast clones produce fewer ganglion cells than wild-type neuroblast clones. The mutant neuroblasts are on average half the size of wild-type neuroblasts.
