UASt regulatory sequences drive expression of a mutated form of hdc in which the internal TAA stop codon at position 2981 has been replaced by sequences encoding an Ala residue (GCA).

      Expression of hdcGCA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4btl.PS results in a dramatic suppression of terminal branches in the dorsal branches of the tracheal system in late stage 16 embryos (the average length of the terminal branches is decreased by 87%). Many tracheal branches have failed to form tracheoles in third instar larvae expressing hdcGCA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4btl.PS.
