Expression of runScer\UAS.cKa under the control of Scer\GAL4MT14 or Scer\GAL4GMR.PF results in all photoreceptor cell axons bypassing the lamina and projecting through to the medulla (in wild type, the R1-R6 axons terminate in the lamina). Thick bundles of axons are seen entering the medulla in animals expressing runScer\UAS.cKa under the control of Scer\GAL4MT14 and the axons do not project deeper into the brain, but stop within the medulla.
Ommatidia have a normal complement and arrangement of photoreceptor cells in animals expressing runScer\UAS.cKa under the control of Scer\GAL4MT14.
The three rows of glial cells that delineate the lamina plexus remain unaltered in animals expressing runScer\UAS.cKa under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF.
Expression of runScer\UAS.cKa under the control of Scer\GAL4sca-109-68 does not affect axonal projection of photoreceptor cells in the retina.
