Expression of jumuScer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL4G61 results in the salivary glands of third instar larvae being very small compared to controls and translucent. The size of the fat body is normal in these larvae. Polytene chromosomes are very thin with low levels of polytenisation and the nucleolus is disorganised.

The salivary glands of third instar larvae expressing jumuScer\UAS.cHa under the control of Scer\GAL4Sgs4.PH are almost normal. However, the nucleolus of the polytene chromosomes is significantly fragmented. In addition, the euchromatin of the polytene chromosomes appears swollen, the chromocenter is nearly always split and the chromosomes are split at the weak points. The nucleus is enlarged and swollen compared to controls in the salivary gland cells.
