A 644 bp deletion including the transcription start site and 43 bp of Cyp18a1 coding sequences starting from the ATG initiation codon.
Estimated boundaries of a 644 bp deletion resulting from the imprecise excision of P{XP}Cyp18a1d07122, which removes the 5' UTR of Cyp18a1 and 43 bases of coding sequence from the ATG.
Lethality in Cyp18a1null644/Y males occur primarily during metamorphosis. Many animals die at the prepupal stage, failing to form distinguishable adult structures. Other animals progress to near the end of pupal development, but failed to emerge. Approximately 5-10% of Cyp18a1null644/Y emerge as adults and die soon after. The average developmental rate of surviving Cyp18a1null644/Y males is slower than that of heterozygous females. The third instar larval stage is delayed by a day, and pupal development of the mutants is approximately 4 days longer than that of controls.
