One out of five different Kal1^{C85S.Scer\UAS} insertions shows reduced viability and delay of hatching when expressed with Scer\GAL4^179Y. The head skeleton shows a thin structure, while the mouth hooks base show only a reduction in the dorsal process. There is a small increase in the lethality rate if the Kal1^{C85S.Scer\UAS} copy number is increased. (Expression of the other insertions does not produce a phenotype.)

Expression of Kal1^{C85S.Scer\UAS} using Scer\GAL4^Bx-MS1096 produces mild wing phenotypes, though a broad splitting of the L4 vein is often seen and wings are reduced in the proximal-distal axis.
