Imprecise excision of P{GawB}NP3499 (located ~400bp upstream of the first Rae1 exon) generates an approximate 1.5kbp deletion ranging from just before the first exon of Rae1 (including all the Rae1 promoter sequence) and some of the the 3' UTR of pirk.
Rae1EXB12 mutants survive until the second instar larval stage. The mutant larvae start wandering with a body size close to second instar. They continue to wander for several days without a further increase in their body size and eventually die before pupation.
