Scer\GAL4GMR.PU-mediated expression results in a normal eye.
Scer\GAL4ey.PU-mediated expression results in a rough eye with irregular alignment of ommatidia and bristles. Ommatidia are of irregular sizes with excess/fewer rhabdomeres than normal; however, each ommatidium contains normally polarized photoreceptor cells, suggesting that the phenotypes are caused by defects in photoreceptor clustering during ommatidial formation.
Most of the axons from the R7 and R8 photoreceptor cells in Scer\GAL4ey.PU, AP-1σNIG.5864R flies terminate in the medulla correctly, but some axons invade neighbouring columns or elongate beyond the M6 layer.
Irregularly aligned and multiplied photoreceptor cells are observed in the eye discs of Scer\GAL4ey.PU, AP-1σNIG.5864R larvae.
The specification of R8 neurons is disturbed in Scer\GAL4ey.PU, AP-1σNIG.5864R third instar larval discs.
