asthmatic1530/asthmatic1530 somatic clones of terminal tracheal cells have a reduced number of side branches and form discontinuous tubes with gas-filling defects.
asthmatic1530 mutant terminal cells exhibit a gas-filling defect. They are defective in matrix clearance in all seamless tubes: mutant terminal cels have normal morphology and form seamless tubes, but the tubes fail to clear and gas-fill.
asthmatic1530 complements the Zif742 allele, but fails to complement Zif1106 (both Zif alleles have been shown to have a point mutation in the CG10267 transcription unit corresponding to Zif). It is not known whether Zif1106 also carries a mutation in the gene corresponding to the asthmatic locus, or whether asthmatic1530 and Zif1106 carry mutations in a third essential gene.
