Wounding (puncturing) flies with a clean needle or with a suspension of dead bacterial cultures results in similar survival rates and bacterial loads (after 12-24 hrs) in a Scer\GAL4Ubi.PU SidNIG.9989R or control background, though the mutant flies are slower to reduce the bacterial load.

Infection of Scer\GAL4Ubi.PU SidNIG.9989R flies with E. coli or M. luteus bacteria, results in a significant reduction of viability as early as 24 hr post-infection. Co-expression of 'UAS-dicer', or heterozygosity for Df(3R)Exel6209 in this background further reduces viability.

Scer\GAL4Ubi.PU SidNIG.9989R flies are significantly more sensitive (ie. show reduced viability) to paraquat-induced oxidative stress compared to controls. Co-expression of 'UAS-dicer', or heterozygosity for Df(3R)Exel6209 in this background further reduces viability.
