Expression of Phf7^EY03023 under the control of Scer\GAL4^{nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16} results in a severe loss of the female germline, while no germline loss is seen when Phf7^EY03023 is expressed either under the control of Scer\GAL4^C587 or under the simultaneous control of both Scer\GAL4^{bam.T:Hsim\VP16} and Scer\GAL4^Scer\UAS.cHa.

Significant loss of the germline has already occurred at the time the female germline stem cell niche is forming in third instar larvae expressing Phf7^EY03023 under the control of Scer\GAL4^{nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16}.

Expression of Phf7^EY03023 under the control of Scer\GAL4^{nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16} has no morphological effect on the male germline, and the males are fully fertile.

Expression of Phf7^EY03023 under the control of Scer\GAL4^{nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16} rescues the size and morphology of 6% of the gonads of XX tra¹/Df(3L)st-j7 animals to a wild-type looking pseudo-testis. These rescued pseudo-testes contain late-stage sperm, including sperm tails and condensed chromatin.
