Description

Insertion of a 1250bp non-autonomous P-element (contains an internal deletion and does not encode a functional P\T product) 82bp upstream of the Hsp83 transcription start site. The element is inserted into an array of three heat-shock consensus (HSC) elements, moving the most distal (HSC3) element further away from the transcription start site, while at the same time creating an 8bp (CTCTAGAA) direct repeat of the same element.

      Homozygotes show lower fitness than wild-type flies in population competition assays.

      Homozygous females have on average significantly lower fecundity than wild-type females, producing three times less offspring than wild type.

      Homozygous females and males show a significant reduction in average lifespan compared to wild-type controls. Females also show a significant difference in the variance of lifespan between wild-type and homozygotes.

      Homozygotes show no significant difference in basal or induced thermotolerance compared to wild type.
