    Description

Nonsense mutation at Q271 in the large wapl isoform. This results in truncation of the large isoform, without affecting the small isoform.

    Detailed Description
    Statement
    Reference

waplAG/+ suppresses the pairing-sensitive silencing of mini-w that is seen in the the P{wen.8}10C insertion: P{wen.8}10C homozygotes carrying one copy of waplAG in a w[-] background have yellow eyes, while P{wen.8}10C homozygotes in a wapl[+] w[-] background have white eyes. waplAG has no effect on the eye colours of flies heterozygous for P{wen.8}10C in a w[-] background.

Most homozygotes die during the pupal stage without the development of cuticle. Adult male escapers have sex comb teeth on all three legs.

Embryos derived from homozygous female germline clones can be paternally rescued by a wild-type copy of wapl.

Homozygous female germline clones show in an increase in non-disjunction of the X and 4th chromosomes compared to control clones.

The addition of pds5e3/+ further darkens the eye colour of flies homozygous for P{wen.8}10C in a waplAG/+ w[-] background.

The addition of Nipped-B29 lightens the eye colour of flies homozygous for P{wen.8}10C in a waplAG/+ w[-] background.

    Comments

The lethality of waplAG is partially rescued by expression of waplScer\UAS.S under the control of Scer\GAL4arm.PS, but is not rescued by expression of waplScer\UAS.L under the control of Scer\GAL4arm.PS.
