      Third instar larvae expressing Crei\ChR2Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4pain-GAL4 show a strong avoidance response to blue light: the larvae cease their movement immediately upon blue light stimulation, contracting their body, wriggling, struggling and moving away from the blue light.

      Flies expressing Crei\ChR2Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4Gr5a.PUn show proboscis extension upon blue light stimulation.

      Adults expressing Crei\ChR2Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4ple.PF show normal locomotor behaviour in the absence of blue light. Upon blue light stimulation, the flies show an increase the speed of locomotion and the fraction of time spent walking and spend significantly more time exploring the centre area of the arena.

      Adult expressing Crei\ChR2Scer\UAS.T:Zzzz\FLAG under the control of Scer\GAL4A307 show characteristic escape behaviours upon blue light stimulation, including leg extension, jumping and wing flapping.
