A modified orb2 genomic fragment has been inserted into the attP site present in orb2attP via phiC31-mediated recombination. The resulting allele consists of wild-type orb2 tagged at the C-terminal end with GFP. A single mFRT11 site is present downstream of the orb2 coding sequence, and single attL and attR sites (generated during the recombination process) are also present.
Homozygous orb2T:Avic\GFP male flies have a long term 24 hour memory comparable to wild type when exposed to a courtship conditioning paradigm. Males that experience futile courtship of mated and therefore unreceptive females suppress their courtship towards other mated females. Short term 1 hour memory is also comparable to wild type.
