Imprecise excision of P{BmΔ-w}pydtam results in deletion of at least the first three exons of pyd-PB, but leaves at least exon 7 intact.
Homozygous pydtex1 mutant flies exhibit ectopic thoracic bristles and a mildly rough eye.
Defects in inter-ommatidial precursor cell (IPC) patterning are seen in pydtex1 mutants 41-42h after pupal formation (APF). A mild increase is seen in the total number of IPCs surrounding each ommatidium, especially around the bristles. The IPCs are poorly placed, resulting in breakdown of the hexagonal pattern to pentagonal or squared ommatidial arrays and the integrity of the 1[o]/1[o] interface is occasionally disrupted by an IPC that makes direct contact with the cone cells (referred to as cone-contact cells). Three cells are observed to share the 3[o] cell niche equally, where normally a single cell is found in this position.
