Expression of α-Cat1.dsRNA.Scer\UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4GMR.PF causes severe disruptions in patterning of inter-ommatidial precursor cells, manifesting as a rough eye phenotype in the adult fly. Inter-ommatidial precursor cell (IPC) patterning errors are observed at 41 hours after pupal formation. An increase in the number of IPCs is seen, and clustering of IPCs around the bristles. Three cells are commonly observed to share the 3[o] cell niche equally, where normally a single cell is found in this position.
