      Homozygous eyes (generated using the eyFLP method) are disorganised and sometimes contain melanotic masses. Ommatidia show polarity defects and multiple ommatidia have varying numbers of rhabdomeres, with both missing and ectopic rhabdomeres observed. Interommatidial bristles are not properly placed at every other vertex and ommatidial fusions are seen.

      Homozygous clones in the wing result in crumpled, melanised wings. Homozygous clones induced 48 hours after egg laying result in developmental defects in multiple tissues, including the leg (which may be twisted and stunted) and the head region (resulting in eye, bristle and antennal defects as well as melanotic masses).
