A ~2.2kb XbaI-BalI fragment of the ftz upstream region (contains the neurogenic element), followed by the ftz basal promoter (~40bp upstream of the transcription start site) is fused upstream of the ftz 5'UTR, coding region, 3'UTR, and 200bp downstream of the polyA signal.
