    Detailed Description
    Statement
    Reference

The centrioles in spermatogonia and primary spermatocytes in testes of Klp10AThbA mutants are abnormally elongated, often display long cilium-like projections on their distal end and they rarely contain a regular cartwheel structure. Mother and daughter centrioles have unequal sizes (mother centrioles are longer) and their respective position is also abnormal: while in wild-type the pro-centrioles form at the proximal end of the mother, in Klp10AThbA mutants the daughter centrioles are displaced away from this position. Mother/daughter centriole pairs of unequal size can also be found in the mutant male germline stem cells.

Klp10AThbA mutant wing disc cells exhibit dramatically elongated centrioles (approximately 100% longer than in wild-type). These centrioles display long microtubule protrusions extending from their distal ends. These protrusions are often many times longer than the centrioles themselves and are microtubule doublets rather than singlets.
