Nonsense mutation (C to T at genomic location 3R:7 ,902,447) in the first coding exon common to all predicted isoforms of ATP8B, and is thus predicted to severely truncate all encoded proteins.

ATP8Bll2 homozygous, or ATP8Bll2/Df(3R)Exel7312, ATP8Bll2/Df(3R)Exel8155 or ATP8Bll2/ATP8Bf05203 trans-heterozygous flies show a reduced electroantennogram response to most tested odorants known to excite a variety of different ORN classes. The response to CO[[2]] is unaffected however. Neurons on the maxillary palp show an equivalent reduction in ATP8Bll2 homozygotes.
