Heat-shock promoter sequences drive expression of grk cDNA sequences arranged in an inverted hairpin loop.
Heat-shock induced expression of grkhs.dsRNA results in defects in embryonic dorsal appendage formation. Approximately 5% exhibit severe defects, 68% are fused, and 27% are wild-type. Over 70% of these heat-shocked flies have some level of disrupted eggshells. Flies kept at 18[o]C exhibit mostly wild-type eggshells.
