Comparable frequencies of female S-phase germline stem cells (GSCs) are seen in AdipoR27 mutant clones and wild type controls raised on either a rich or poor diet. The number of progeny are also equivalent, and an equal number of two, four, eight and 16 cell cysts are seen. Vitellogenesis is unaffected. AdipoR27 mutant GSCs are lost at a higher rate than controls on both rich and poor diets, although the increase is greater on rich diets than on poor diets. There is no evidence of increased GSC apoptosis compared to controls. The number of cap cells in the stem cell niche is similar to controls.
