      Homozygous and bark23H/Df(2L)BSC171 animals do not undergo gas filling of the tracheal tubes at the end of embryogenesis and the mutant larvae have convoluted tracheal branches.

      The transepithelial barrier is defective in bark23H/Df(2L)BSC171 embryos (dextran dye injected into the haemocoel diffuses into the tracheal lumen).
