UAS regulatory sequences drive expression of a short inverted repeat.
Expression of drongoHMJ22758 under the combined control of the Scer\GAL4otu.T:Hsim\VP16, Scer\GAL4nos.PG and Scer\GAL4nos.UTR.T:Hsim\VP16 drivers leads to pleiotropic egg chamber defects: Some eggs contain a double dose of cells (total of 32, 30 nurse cells, 2 oocytes) due to faulty splitting or adhesion of follicle cells and their two oocytes are positioned randomly. In other cases the egg chamber is completely malformed consisting of abnormally wide band of follicle cells surrounding a few cells resembling nurse cells. Other defects seem to be due to an extra round of cystoblast division as the egg chambers contain 32 cells but with just one oocyte. However, most egg chambers appear to develop normally and can be fertilized and deposited normally and also hatch at rates comparable to wild-type.
