Expression of Zzzz\CTG20.Scer\UAS.cCa under the control of Scer\GAL4Mhc.PW does not significantly affect the adult lifespan, locomotion (climbing or flight abilities) or the area of indirect flight muscles in either 3-day or 30-day-old flies relative to age-matched controls. Similarly, expression driven by Scer\GAL4tin.cBa also has no effect on survival, cardiac function or locomotion in adult flies.
As in wild type, the cardiac myofibrils of one-week old flies expressing Zzzz\CTG20.Scer\UAS.cCa under the control of Scer\GAL4tin.cBa and Scer\GAL4Scer\UAS.cHa (collectively known as GMH5-Gal4) are tightly arranged and well-aligned. No arrhythmia is observed. The heart period length (diastolic plus systolic interval) is not significantly increased compared with control flies: systolic interval is slightly increased but is compensated for by a decreased diastolic interval. End systolic diameter (ESD) and end diastolic diameter (EDD) are both reduced, but percentage of fractional shortening (FS) is normal.
