UASp regulatory sequences drive expression of the DsRed(E5) fluorescent protein. The DsRed(E5) open reading frame is flanked on either side by the 5' UTR and the 3'UTR of the cora RA isoform respectively, which results in targeting to the neuromuscular junction. DsRed(E5) has been reported to act as a fluorescent timer, with its fluorescence changing from bright green to bright red over time (see PMID:11090358). However, in this case, in the environment of the muscle, the protein did not change color with time.
