Recombination between the progenitor insertions results in complete deletion of Nopp140 (Nopp140Δ) and removal of the 3' coding region of P5CDh1) (P5CDh1f04633.Δ).
Homozygous Nopp140Δ mutants show significantly reduced hatching rate compared to wild-type and do not survive beyond the second larval instar.
Polyploid midgut cells of Nopp140Δ/Nopp140Δ second instar larvae are devoid of free cytoplasmic ribosomes and instead display what appear to be ribosomal aggregates not normally seen in the cytoplasm of wild-type cells, they also contain unusually high numbers of dispersed or clustered virus-like particles in the nuclei.
The presence of PBac{RB5.WH5}Nopp140Δ was verified by PCR.
