FlyBase curator comment: this entry is used to capture phenotypic information when the particular allele (or allele combination) used by the author could not be determined but the context of the experiment suggests that the phenotype being described is some kind of loss of function.
The central nervous system of mutant embryos contains large rounded cells which disrupt midline patterning and axon crossing. The large rounded cells do not stain with neuronal or midline cell markers, and appear to be apparently unspecified cells that are produced during gastrulation and persist.
