UASt regulatory sequences drive expression of a cytoplasmically targeted mutant form of Mmus\Nmnat1 (Sazaki et al 2006 describes that residues corresponding to the nuclear localization site are disrupted - PGRKRKW at 211-217 to PGAAAAW).
Under control conditions, the expression of Mmus\Nmnat1cyt.UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4elav.PU does not significantly affect the number of sensory axons per nerve in third instar larvae, as compared to controls.
Olfactory axons expressing Mmus\Nmnat1cyt.UAS under the control of Scer\GAL4Or82a.PF show a strong delay in the degeneration of axotomized neurons, as compared to controls.
