Alasunspecified homozygous mutant ready-to-hatch larvae are contracted and separated from the egg case by liquid, and tracheae are not air-filled, unlike controls; the cuticle is impermeable, similar to controls; when larvae are freed from the egg, they contract and crumple and the cuticle sometimes detaches from the body surface, unlike controls.
Alasunspecified mutant larvae shown virtually no body melanization, and exhibit a defective cuticle, as shown by its excessive permeability to Eosin Y (but an apparently normal autofluorescence upon exposure to 405nm light), as compared to controls.
