FlyBase curator comment: this entry is used to capture phenotypic information when the particular allele (or allele combination) used by the author could not be determined but the context of the experiment suggests that the phenotype being described is some kind of loss of function.
Under normal conditions Pp4-19Cunspecified third instar larval brains exhibit a frequency of chromosome aberrations similar to controls.
After 5 Gy X-ray treatment, both Pp4-19Cunspecified and control third instar larval brains exhibit similar frequencies of nuclei with γ-H2Av foci (indicative of double strand breaks) until 2 hours post irradiation (PIR). At 4 and 6 hours PIR, mutant brains show significantly higher frequencies of nuclei with foci than controls.
After 10 Gy X-ray treatment, in both Pp4-19Cunspecified and control third instar larval brains the mitotic index drops at 5-15 min PIR. It stays low for more than 3 hours in Pp4-19Cunspecified brains while controls reenter mitosis at 30-60 minutes PIR.
