UASt regulates expression of a catalytically dead version of the P{mito-APOBEC1} "mtDNA mutator" construct - codon GAA is changed to GCT at amino acid position 63 of the Rnor\Apobec1 cDNA, resulting in a Glu63Ala change.

      The expression of Rnor\Apobec1E63A.Tag:Mito(hATP5F1B),Tag:HA under the control of Scer\GAL4da.G32 does not induce any gross development, viability or lifespan defect, but leads to a progressive decrease in climbing ability. Adults do not show significant mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) mutations, no effect on mtDNA levels or mtDNA integrity; there is an obvious change in NS:S mutation ratio compared to controls.
