Description

Imprecise excision of the Mi{ET1}osyMB00606 progenitor producing an insertion of 4 bp at the position of transposon insertion (in codon number 273), causing a frame-shift resulting in a stop codon soon downstream of the insertion site, in turn yielding a protein devoid of the ABC2 domain.

osyΔMiM18 homozygous embryos and larvae have apparently normal morphology but larvae immobilize, flatten and die soon after hatching.

Unlike controls, 1st instar larvae uptake Eosin Y at 40[o]C (but not at 25[o]C), indicating cuticle permeability despite a normal cuticle architecture, and their epidermal cells exhibit electron-lucid round structures, probably representing lipid droplet-like organelles, which are absent in controls.
