A genomic fragment that flanks the insertion site of the roo element in the roo{}Lime793 insertion (and which includes the roo element) has been cloned and fused upstream of lacZ. Three predicted transcription factor binding sites (TFBSs) (for Deaf1, tin and dl) in the roo sequence have been mutated.
