Term histoblast ID (Ontology) FBbt:00001789 (Fly Anatomy)
Definition A progenitor cell found in the larval epidermis that produces the adult external abdomen. These cells are part of the larval epidermis, secrete cuticle and contribute to larval epithelial patterning. They can be distinguished from the larval epidermal cells due to their small size and the fact that they remain diploid (Martinez Arias, 1993).[ FlyBase:FBrf0064786 ]
