General Information
Term adult fan-shaped body delta neuron ID (Ontology) FBbt:00003636 (Fly Anatomy)
Definition Adult small-field columnar neuron that connects any two regions of the fan-shaped body and has its arbors mostly restricted to the fan-shaped body (Hanesch et al., 1989; Hulse et al., 2021).[ FlyBase:FBrf0049409 FlyBase:FBrf0212061 FlyBase:FBrf0241389 FlyBase:FBrf0246888 FlyBase:FBrf0254510 ]
Also Known As"pontine fiber" ; "pontine neuron"
CommentOriginal reference (Hanesch et al., 1989) did not limit the definition to FB neurons, but only FB neurons were described and now 'pontine neuron' is used to refer only to FB neurons (Bayraktar et al., 2010; Andrade et al., 2019). A couple of types have a small amount of arborization outside of the FB, meaning that these are not all strictly intrinsic (Scheffer et al., 2020; Hulse et al., 2021).
