Term lobula columnar neuron LC8 ID (Ontology) FBbt:00003878 (Fly Anatomy)
Definition An extrinsic columnar neuron that branches multiple times in layers 5 and 4 and forms a broad arborization in layer 3 with both bleb-type and fine terminals. It is a glutamatergic neuron (Raghu and Borst, 2011).[ FlyBase:FBrf0049410 FlyBase:FBrf0213690 ]

Comment The neurotransmitter was assessed by labelling cells with a vGlut[CNSIII]-GAL4 driver (FBti0129148) (Raghu and Borst, 2011). Pre- versus postsynaptic innervation judged by scoring of terminal morphology from figures in Fischbach and Dittrich (1989) as assessed by FlyBrain Neuron DB.
