Term dorsal pharyngeal sense organ ID (Ontology) FBbt:00007281 (Fly Anatomy)
Definition Paired compound sense organ of the larval labral segment (Campos-Ortega and Hartenstein, 1997). It consists of 6 sensilla in the dorsal larval pharynx: one tri-dendritic, 2 bi-dendritic and 3 mono-dendritic (Campos-Ortega and Hartenstein, 1997). Projections generally, though not exclusively, target the contralateral subesophageal ganglion area 1 (Colomb et al., 2007).[ FlyBase:FBrf0089570 FlyBase:FBrf0147119 FlyBase:FBrf0201176 ]

CommentColomb et al. (2007) report that labral nerve projections pass through area 2 and into area 1 of the subesophageal ganglion. In the majority of cases they then target the contralateral area 2. An exception to this is one DPS fiber (which labels with Gr2a-GAL4) which targets inside area 4.
