Term calcium-sensing neuron of labellar S-type taste bristle ID (Ontology) FBbt:00047485 (Fly Anatomy)
Definition Neuron of the labellum that is sensitive to increases in calcium concentration and is necessary for high calcium avoidance behavior (Lee et al., 2018). It also responds to other cations (Montell, 2021). These have dendrites in S-type sensilla (short labellar taste bristles), including S3, S5, S6, S7, S8 and S10 (Lee et al., 2018). The response to calcium requires the Ir25a and Ir76b co-receptors (Lee et al., 2018).[ FlyBase:FBrf0237619 FlyBase:FBrf0248270 ]

CommentResponse to calcium is greatly reduced, but not eliminated when Ir62a is absent. Authors also believe that more Ir subunits are involved (Lee et al., 2018).
