Term adult brake neuron ID (Ontology) FBbt:00053379 (Fly Anatomy)
Definition Adult ascending neuron with its soma in a thoracic neuromere and an axonal projection to the subesophageal zone (Sapkal et al., 2024). It also outputs to the tectulum (Sapkal et al., 2024). There is one of these per thoracic hemineuromere. Its activation causes halting (Sapkal et al., 2024).[ FlyBase:FBrf0260559 ]

Comment Sapkal et al. (2024) show that this is excitatory, but do not confirm neurotransmitter. Subtype of AN19A018 based on body ids in Sapkal et al. (2024) supplement. AN19A018 also mapped to brake neurons in Bates et al. (2025) - doi:10.1101/2025.07.31.667571.
